The ash is a deciduous tree native to Europe, with up to 70 different species. The trees reach heights of up to 45 metres and ages of up to 250 years. The bark of the ash is fissured both lengthwise and across, and the wood is heavy with a high density. For around 20 years, ash populations have been under serious threat from several tree fungus species.
