Beech

Beech

The beech is one of the most common wood species in Germany and Austria, with up to 250 different varieties. The tree can reach a height of 30–40 m and live up to 300 years. Beech wood shows an even grain, and older trees often develop a decorative reddish-brown heartwood.

Beech trees owe their great popularity to their fruit, the beechnuts, which sit in a brown husk covered with soft spines. Although beechnuts were often eaten in the past, they are not recommended for consumption, as they contain the irritant fagin as well as small amounts of oxalic acid. The wavy leaves are oval and grow 5–11 cm long.

Beech tables are characterised by a light, homogeneous, understated wood with a hard, dense surface. Thanks to its excellent strength properties, beech is perfect for our bespoke tables. So-called spalted beech shows a very special figure, its surface resembling a work of art — which is why we are especially fond of using it.
